I found “the one” for me, and he happens to be white.
My husband and I share the exact same beliefs as far as racial issues apparent today.
Downside: There would be times when I was sitting on the bus, listening to host Sarah Koenig talking to Adnan from prison, and a dirty feeling would come over me. Was anyone else thinking that maybe it’s a bad idea to be too controlling about who your kids date?
They’ll have me-Their black mother and my husband-Their white father. Older women told me it was because they were intimidated. As if he wanted to scream to the world he was a racist. As in I was his girlfriend’s best friend so he would put up with me, talk to me and occasionally dance with me probably just to make her happy. “But you’re different.” What do you mean I’m different? He’s really abandoned all rights to talk about prejudice, when he declares skin colour matters to him, in terms of whom his children date.
Even sadder was he seems to think most Pakeha thing the same as him – only in reverse. Now the media have not been totally silent on Hone.
A dozen activists would have complained to the Human Rights Commission.
Every major newspaper would have condemned the MP in editorials and there would be many calls for them to be sacked. In fact I will give him his dues that he doesn’t bullshit and says what he believes – no matter what. But I do think he is getting off too lightly from what was a pretty awful thing to say.
